Benson Merritt College Bound!
This past weekend right hander Benson Merritt pitched in North Carolina and was impressive. Terriers coaches received several positive remarks from college recruiters in attendance, but they won't have a shot at landing the big right hander, as today he has accepted Head Coach Mike McRae's scholarship offer to become a Golden Griffin at Canisius College(NCAA D1). Benson is armed with three quality pitches, rare for a high school aged pitcher.

His fastball is routinely clocked at 87mph and his change up consistently has hitters out on their front foot. He joined the team in late August and has been a perfect fit to an already solid starting pitching staff. Over the past c6ouple of months, Benson has endeared himself to the Terriers coaches with his great attitude and his willingness to learn. He takes advice in a positive manner and has been a very welcome addition to the program. Gentle Ben's quiet nature is not reflective of his competitiveness however, because when he takes to the mound, it's all business! This certainly is a trait that impressed Coach McRae. Merritt is the fifth Terrier to commit to a NCAA Division 1 school for the fall of 2008. Benson played his minor baseball in Stoney Creek Little League. He is an excellent student and will be studying education in college. Further, the entire Terriers organization would like to thank Griffs Head Coach Mike McRae for his support, and his recruitment of not only Terriers graduating players, but all Canadians that he has recruited in the past that have the dream of playing south of the border. This time around though, congratulations to Benson, his family and his continued success for a bright future in college baseball.
