Coming off his first season in college baseball where Terrier Alumni Ian Choy was named MAAC Conference Top Freshman, year two brings more honors from the conference coaches poll. CollegeBaseballInsider.com asked college coaches around the country to preview the 2008 college baseball season by sharing their insights on the teams and players to watch in their conferences. The team to beat is: Manhattan The three top starting pitchers are: Tom Costigan (Manhattan)*, Josh Sawatsky (Canisius) and Craig Chaput (Siena)/Erik Miksitz (Saint Peter’s) (tie) The top closer is: James Hayes (Rider) The one pitcher you don’t want to face is: Josh Sawatsky (Canisius) The most underrated pitcher is: Chris Innis (Saint Peter’s)/Rob Gariano (Fairfield) The best defensive catcher is: Kevin Reimer (Canisius) The best three pure hitters are: Peter Allen (Fairfield), Ian Choy (Canisius) and Kevin Kallert (Saint Peter’s)/Tim Alberts (Niagara) (tie) The biggest three power threats are: Peter Allen (Fairfield), Kevin Mahoney (Canisius) and Jake Willis (Siena)/Tim Alberts (Niagara)/Jason Rago (Fairfield)/Mike McGuire (Saint Peter’s)/Rick Seltzer (Siena) (tie) The hitter you least want to face is: Ian Choy (Canisius) The most underrated hitter is: Allie Abbatiello (Iona) Your favorite road stadium to visit is: Marist/Fairfield/Saint Peter’s/Siena
