Simon Clarke Paces Jr Terriers With First Inning Grand Slam!
Submitted By Dan Thompson on Saturday, September 6, 2008
After a very well played 3-0 shutout victory over the Royals Friday night, the Jr. Terriers moved their record to 2 and 0 at the Brawl in the fall tournament with a 14-0 thrashing of the Bullett Proof Allstars. The Terriers would strike early and often. Center fielder Blair Gignac led the game off with a single. Mattingly Romanin and Cole Peragine followed with singles of their own, loading the bases for clean up hitter, Simon Clarke.

Simon hit the first pitch he saw, which resulted in a mammoth grand slam over the fence in left center field. 4-0 Terriers. Left fielder Brian Doran would later score the 5th Terriers run of the inning after he reached on an error. The onslaught continued through all five innings (10 run mercy rule in effect). Ron Breutigem counted two RBIs in the second and Cole Peragine had two in the third. The relentless Terriers attack had Brian Doran, Adam Godo, Jake Zuk and Jake Walton all score runs. Starting pitcher Matt Faulkner cruised through three innings of work, striking out three. Right hander Alex Halayko threw the final two innings. Next up for the Jr. Terriers, a tilt with the Ottawa Canadians. With their two wins they are guaranteed of a playoff berth Sunday. Meanwhile, in the Sr. circuit, coming off a 0-0 game(time limit) Friday night the Terriers bounced back with a 9-2 victory over the Toronto Mets. Starting pitcher Tavis Bruce was outstanding through six innings of work, striking out 9 and walking only one. He gave way to Chandler McLaren in the seventh. The Sr. Terriers offense was highlighted by a two run homer by Kevin Nickel. Jeff Hunt had two hits, Tanner Nivins, Joel Stubbs, Aaron Wagner, Brandon Dailey and Nathan Loehle all chipped in with one. The seniors also play Ottawa next and with a victory will advance to the semi finals Sunday afternoon.
