Nivins + Stubbs Provide 7Th Inning Heroics In Win Over Bmp California
Submitted By Dan Thompson on Saturday, September 27, 2008
The 2 and 0 Terriers were up against the 1 and 1 BMP baseball program from Sacramento California at the Triple Crown Baseball Rising Sun Tournament in Mesa Arizona. This game would go back and forth, with the Terriers delivering the decisive blow in the top of the seventh inning, then hold on for a 5-4 victory. Trailing 1-0 after one inning with Tavis Bruce on the hill, the Terriers would score two runs in the top of the second.

The mini rally was set up after a Donovan Latour walk, a Graeme Carey single, a Jeff Hunt walk and RBI singles by Kevin Nickel and Greame Scott. Right hander Tavis Bruce would go four strong innings and leave the game with runners at first and second. Matt Betts would come on and snuff the Sacramento rally, allowing just one run. 2-2 after four innings. In the fifth the teams would trade a pair of runs to run the score to 4-4. Graeme Carey would pick up both RBIs scoring Latour and Stubbs who had singled. Graeme would go 3 for 4 in this game. In the top of the seventh with one out, third baseman Joel Stubbs laced the first pitch he saw into the right field corner for a triple. Tanner Nivins then hit a 1-1 pitch to deep center field for an RBI sac fly and the 5-4 lead. Jeff Hunt came on to pitch the seventh and close out the win. The Terriers will play in their final game Saturday night versus the undefeated Glendale AZ Clash.
