Alumni Billy Martin Gets 1St College Win
Submitted By Dan Thompson on Sunday, February 28, 2010
Right-hander Terrier alumni Billy Martin got his first college victory this past weekend, a 3-0 shutout over Long Island University.

The victory moved the Canisius Golden Griffins to a 6 and 2 record so far this season. Billy allowed just five hits in six innings of work. He struck out eight and got some help offensively from Ian Choy, who was 1-3. Ian is hitting .370 after eight games this year. Congratulations on your first college victory Billy! In other NCAA D1 action, Terrier alumni Joel Stubbs got his first college hit, as the Binghamton Bearcats opened their season in Virginia this past weekend. Joel played third base and was 1-3 with two walks and 1-4 with an RBI in his first two games as a freshman. The University of West Alabama's Brian Simone was named the Gulf South Conference Player of the Week. Brian was 10-20 with 6 runs scored, 6 RBIs, 5 walks and is hitting .368 on the season with two homers. Further, he recently gained honourable mention by the National College Baseball Writers Association's for their All Canadian College Team selections. A product of Windsor baseball, Brian played on the 2006 Terriers club that won the PBLO league championship and the 2006 World Series in Nashville. Congratulations to Brian and his family!
