18S Hang Tough In Game 1
The Terriers opened their March Break Spring Training trip with a hard fought 5-3 loss to St.Claire College (Michigan). Leading 1-0 after two innings, the Terriers could not avoid a rough third inning, allowing five runs. They would score two runs in the fifth and had opportunities to tie the game in both the sixth and seventh but couldn't come up with a big hit to do so. Lefty Billy Ralston pitched innings one and two and was outstanding.

He struck out five and faced only seven batters. That was a great day of work in front of pro scouts from Tampa Bay, Milwaukee, Oakland, Seattle, Cleveland and the MLB Scouting Bureau. Right hander Connor Smith also threw two shutout innings, overpowering the St. Claire hitters with a good mix of 86-88 mph fast balls and his knee buckling curve. Offensively, shortstop Brandon Dailey was 3-4 with an RBI a stolen base and a run scored. Left fielder Anthony Vacca had two hits (2 RBI), as did Brian Doran (2B,1B,RS) and Simon Clarke. Christian Fearon and Blair Gignac chipped in with singles. The Terriers will play Westchester College (NY) later today, and another DH on Sunday.
