Terriers 17U Split On Day 1 Of Kalamazoo Klassic
After a tough 1-0 loss to Michigan Elite Gold in game one of the day, the Terriers Junior squad bounced back with a dramatic bottom of the seventh win in game two. Two stellar pitching performances by Matthew Beaton (6 strike outs and only 4 hits in four innings) and Trevor Brigden (1 strike out, 1 hit and 1 walk in two innings) highlighted game one. In game two versus Diamonds 18u, the Terriers jumped out to 6-1 lead before surrendering 6 runs in the top of the sixth.

Down a run in the bottom of the seventh Cal Murphy lead off with a walk, then stole second and reached third on a passed ball. Kyle Thalheimer reached on the second walk of the inning. With men on first and third, Jake Osborne executed the safety squeeze and Murphy narrowly escaped an attempted tag by the catcher to score the tying run. After another passed ball, Matthew Beaton was intentionally walked to load the bases. On a 1-0 count, Marcus Dicenzo hit a line drive down the left field line to cash in Thalheimer to win the ball game. Zack Sloan, Kevin Lucas and Nick Wideman threw in the intense 100 degree weather to pace the junior squad to their first win of the tournament.
