Grant Okawa Will Play At Fenway Park
Terriers slick middle infielder Grant Okawa has acquired an NCAA D1 scholarship to UMass Amherst. The Minutemen play in the Atlantic 10 Conference and compete annually at the Beanpot Tournament in Boston at Fenway Park. That weekend will certainly be one of the high points in Grant's college baseball career as he is a life long Red Sox fan.
Grant has trained under Rick Johnston and Ryan Armstrong at The Baseball Zone since he was 10 years old.
He is blessed with fast infielder hands and a strong accurate arm. As a hitter he goes gap to gap and is a tough out.
Before joining the Terriers Grant was a member of the Mississauga North Tigers who won back to back "AAA" OBA Championships in Minor and Major Bantam. He has also played at the Hall of Fame in Cooperstown, in Oklahoma at the JR Sunbelt and in Peoria Arizona at the SR Fall Classic.
UMass Amherst, located in Amherst Massachusetts, sits on nearly 1,450 acres in the scenic Pioneer Valley of Western Massachusetts, 90 miles from Boston and 175 miles from New York City. Fall 2014 enrollment was 28,635. It is the Commonwealth's flagship campus and is a nationally ranked public research university offering a full range of undergraduate, graduate and professional degrees. Grant will be studying Psychology/Kinesiology at UMass.
Currently at high school Grant plays on the volleyball and baseball teams. He was awarded with team MVP honors last season. He is also an active member of the school's Leadership Executive Committee.
Congratulations to the entire Okawa family on all of Grant's academic and athletic achievements.
