Exciting Future Unfolding For The Terriers And The Baseball Zone
The Terriers and The Baseball Zone are excited to announce that they have a new partner in their business operations effective November 6th, 2015. Mike and Nicole Tevlin will be partnering with current TBZ/Terrier owner Rick Johnston (RJ) in ushering in the next era of a business that has historically had tremendous success in developing student athletes. “We're thrilled to invest with RJ in taking this business to an even higher level”, says Mike.

“We've long considered him to be one of the country’s leading baseball minds and we think that working together will allow us to really turn some heads in the world of amateur baseball in Canada.” Mike and Nicole bring tremendous business and operational experience to the table. Mike and his partners started, ran and eventually sold one of Canada’s leading bakery operations, while Nicole ran the information systems at a large multinational engineering firm. They are also board members and advisors in several for-profit and not-for-profit businesses, including Mike’s position on the Board of Governors for Tennis Canada. Their involvement with tennis has gone hand-in-hand with the recent successes enjoyed by Canadians in that sport. The Tevlins have a passion for baseball having been very involved with both of their sons playing the game from a young age, through the Terriers program, right up to their commitment to NCAA Division 1 colleges. Nicole played sports at an international level, but was not exposed to baseball having grown up overseas. “In the last number of years, my kids’ passion for the game has been infectious, and my appreciation for what it takes to attain the goals these young men are working toward, motivates me to help with the process anyway I can” explains Nicole. She finds the Terriers program most impressive in this regard. The Terriers are managed by many of the best coaches in the country, including Scott Vandevalk, Dean Dicenzo, Tom Colangelo, Chris Hartery, John Milton, and John McEwan, who are joined by Matt Stocco, Omari Briscoe, Rick Gallo, Tim Gasparotto, Ryan Armstrong and Ed Heather. Add newcomers Billy Martin, Morgan Kielty, Ian Bala and Alex Hawley to the mix, and the Terrier Family has a unique perspective when it comes to mentoring young baseball players. “The Terrier players are definitely held to a higher standard both on and off the diamond.” says Mike Tevlin. The organization will miss departing partner Mike McCarthy, whose diligence and hard work has created along with Johnston, Canada's leading baseball training facility over the last twelve years. McCarthy has also been a big part of the success and operation of The Terriers baseball program. “The Terriers and the game of baseball have been good to us, and if we can help by giving back, then all the better” adds Tevlin. As Rick Johnston puts it, “Baseball is on fire right now in our country and these are exciting times. It's certainly been a great ride so far and wait till you see what we have in store for the future!”
