16S Sweep Dh From Melbourne Avengers
Merritt Island, FL - The 16U Terriers won their first two games of 2017 with a double-header sweep on Saturday in Florida. The game one victory was a hard fought 5-4 win. Ellis Campbell led the game off with a single, advanced to second on a ball that eluded the Avenger catcher and scored on Aiden Pickering's RBI single to left. Michael Stremlaw and Connor O'Halloran also scored in the inning to give the Terriers an early 3-0 lead.

Michael had walked and Connor had singled with a sharp drive through the right side. Melbourne got on the board with a run in the second, but it was answered by the Terriers in the top of the third making the score 4-1. That lead would not stand up however as two runs in the fourth and one in the fifth knotted the game at 4-4. The Terriers pulled the game out in their half of the seventh when Liam Bavington smashed a one out double down the line and then scored on Brayden Heleno's RBI single. Coach Iannuzzi spread the pitching around with Michael Stremlaw, Owen MacNeil , Liam Bavington and Connor Carr- Matthews‎ all getting some spring training work in. A three run rally in the bottom of the second paved the way to a 6-2 win in game two. Connor Carr- Matthews, Matt Ward and Dante Wright all scored for a 3-0 lead. Matthews had walked while Ward and Wright had both singled. The Avengers drew close in their half of the fourth with two runs but the Terriers put the game away in the sixth lead by a Campbell Ellis RBI triple, a Christian Bottero double and RBI singles by Aiden Pickering and Michael Phillips. Pitchers Michael Manning, Connor O'Halloran, Mihai Aron and Jack Iannuzzi were outstanding in this game. Michael had three strikeouts, while Connor had two. No one gave up more than two hits. ‎The 17U Terriers moved their spring training record to 2-0 Saturday morning with a 9-4 win over the Canonniers . Lefty Zach Bayfield got the nod on the hill and would get credit for the win. Zach went four innings, struck out three, allowed two hits and walked just one. Sawan Bhatnagar had a double at the plate. He also scored twice and had two RBIs. Brenden McQuinn and Jamal Armstrong both scored two runs and chipped in with singles.
