16'S Split Weekend Series With London
After splitting a DH with the Badgers in London on Saturday (6-0), (4-2) the 16u Terriers were back at home for a Mother's Day twin bill which also ended in a split.
The Terriers wasted a great pitching performance by Connor O'Halloran in game one, losing 4-3. Game two was a different story however as the Terriers belted 11 hits in a 9-3 victory.
Owen MacNeil picked up the win on the mound, going four innings, striking out four along the way.
Michael Manning fired the fifth and sixth, while Aiden Pickering took care of the London side in order in the seventh.
The Badgers lead 1-0 until the bottom of the third when the Terriers finally broke through with three runs off the crafty London left-hander. With one out Matt Ward was hit by a pitch then advanced to third on Jack Iannuzzi's single to right. After getting the second out of the inning it looked like the London lefty may get off the hook, but Brayden Heleno stepped in and came up with a clutch two out, two RBI double off the wall in right. Connor O'Halloran was next in and he kept the inning alive with a single to bring up Michael Stremlaw. Michael cashed Heleno with an RBI single to left for a two run Terriers lead.
Dante Wright reached base in the bottom of the fourth, stole two bases and eventually scored to make it 4-1.
The Badgers would bounce right back however with a run in the top of the fifth to keep the game close.
A five run bottom of the fifth would end up putting this game away. The big rally started with back to back walks to Heleno and O'Halloran. Stremlaw, who had three hits in the game, was at it again with an RBI single to score Heleno, then Aiden Pickering dropped an RBI single into right field, scoring O'Halloran. Jack Iannuzzi, Campbell Ellis and Dante Wright rounded out the inning when they all crossed to put the game in the books.
PBLO play continues every weekend for all four Terriers teams until the end of June.
