Terriers Win 16U Hoosier Classic
Submitted By Dan Thompson on Monday, July 1, 2019
The 16u Terriers kicked off their summer tournament schedule in style with a perfect 5-0 record and the championship crown at the 2019 Hoosier Classic in Ft. Wayne Indiana.

Every game was tight and hard fought but the Terriers prevailed with 3-1, 6-3, 4-3, 5-1 and a thrilling 7-6 walk off  victory over the Ft.Wayne Diamondbacks in the final.

In Sunday's night"s final the Terriers were trailing 6-1 in the second inning when lefthander  Rhys Montgomery came on to pitch and prevent the Diamondbacks from getting any further ahead. He would go the distance, allowing just two hits.

Josh Cote got the Terriers close in the fifth with a booming two RBI double off the wall in right.

Then in the bottom of the seventh the Terriers loaded the bases, Julian Russell stepped in and came through with the game winning RBI. Alejandro Leon scored on the play.

Congratulations to Manager Ryan Pollard, his coaching staff and a gritty bunch of players.

The 15u Terriers also had a nice run at the All Prospect Mid-West Select in Indianapolis.

They had a perfect 4-0 record in pool play with a 2-0 win over the Indiana Expos, a 15-4 win over the Sycamores, and 11-1 and 15-1 victories over the Indiana Braves and South Bend Elite.

Lefty Jordan Woods had a complete game no hitter in the 2-0 win. He struck out fifteen.

The Terriers fell in the quarter finals on Sunday morning to the Kentucky Eagles by a 4-3 score.

The 15s are off to Nashville on Wednesday, while the 16s will head to Columbus.
