Two former Terriers to represent Canada at WBC
Team Canada released their roster for the 2023 World Baseball Classic this week and it featured two familiar faces.

Terriers alumni right hander Cal Quantrill and right hander Trevor Brigden will take part in the tournament that takes place from March 7 to 21.

Canada will play their round robin games at Chase Field in Arizona in a pool with USA, Mexico, Colombia and Great Britain.

Quantrill headlines the pitching staff after an impressive 2022 season with the Cleveland Guardians. In 32 starts he posted a 15-5 record with a 3.38 ERA over 186.1 innings. In a pair of postseason starts, both while opposing Gerrit Cole and the New York Yankees, he threw 10 innings with a 5.40 ERA.

Brigden spent the 2022 season split between Double-A Montgomery and Triple-A Durham in the Tampa Bay Rays organization. Over 37 appearances out of the bullpen he was 5-5 with a 3.05 ERA and three saves. His strong performance earned him an invite to big league spring training later this month.

Both hurlers have donned the red and the white previously. Quantrill was a staple with the Junior National Team during his high school career and Brigden was on the roster for the Baseball Americas Olympic Qualifier in 2021.

Canada will open the tournament on March 12 against Great Britain. They will then take on USA on March 13 and Colombia March 14, before closing out the round robin on March 15 against Mexico.
